The Abandoned Asylum II

I got such an overwhelming response from the Asylums post that I decided to do a small follow up that focuses a little bit on some the really unique design of some of these places. Someone brought up the split corridors as a very strange and unique way to build and I noticed it in other asylums as well, a nod to George Thomas Hines’ idea that this type of architecture was in a class all of its own. I also found an alternate view of the famous skeletal urbex staircase at St. John’s Hospital (Lincolnshire County Pauper Lunatic Asylum).

  1. I think of all the sad and abandoned souls….

  2. Gives me chills up my spine.
The creeper-like plant taking over the room in the third picture looks sinister.
